RetireHere Pro is an annual subscription. Unless you cancel before your renewal date, your subscription will automatically renew for another one-year term and your payment method will be charged the renewal price disclosed to you before renewal, plus applicable taxes.

You may cancel at any time online from your account menu under Manage Subscription. Cancellation stops future automatic renewals but does not end access you have already paid for. Your Pro access will continue through the end of your current paid subscription term.

Except where required by law, subscription payments are nonrefundable and RetireHere does not provide prorated refunds or credits for unused time. RetireHere does not offer a separate trial or money-back guarantee unless one is expressly stated at the time of purchase.

RetireHere will provide renewal, price-change, and cancellation notices as required by applicable law. If you are unable to access your account to cancel, you may contact RetireHere at notifications@retirehere.app for assistance.

This page describes what RetireHere collects, why, and how it is protected. We wrote it to describe what this site actually does, not a generic template — if something below ever changes, this page is updated to match before the change ships.

If you create an account, we collect your email address through our authentication provider, Supabase. At signup, you can choose whether to receive occasional product update emails; this choice is on by default and you can change it anytime by unsubscribing from any such email. If you submit a rating or review, we collect the rating categories you select, an optional written comment, your stated connection to the city (e.g. resident, visitor, considering it), and, separately, your email address — used only to help us detect fraudulent or duplicate submissions and never shown publicly. If you join a waitlist (such as for RetireHere Pro), we collect the email address you provide for that purpose.

If you're signed in, we store the cities you favorite, the personal notes you write on individual cities, and, for Pro subscribers, the saved lists (retirement lists) and interest ratings you create. Ratings and written reviews you submit are public and visible to other visitors by design, the way any community review is. Favorites, notes, and saved lists are private to your account.

RetireHere does not use tracking cookies. Certain preferences — your favorited cities, active filters, and whether you've seen an onboarding tour — are stored in your browser's local storage so the app remembers them between visits. This information stays on your device; it isn't a tracking technology and isn't shared with advertisers, because RetireHere doesn't work with advertisers.

RetireHere uses Supabase to host our database, handle authentication, and store the information described above. Our typeface is hosted directly on our own servers rather than loaded from a third party. We use PostHog, a product analytics service, to understand aggregate visitor behavior — which pages and features are used, and how often — so we can improve the site. PostHog assigns an anonymous identifier stored in your browser to recognize repeat visits from the same device; we do not currently link this identifier to your name, email, or account. We use Resend to send account-related email, such as password resets, and, if you opt in, product updates. We use Stripe to process RetireHere Pro subscription payments; the payment details you enter at checkout go directly to Stripe, and RetireHere never sees or stores your card number. We do not use advertising trackers of any kind.

Your account data — including your notes, favorites, and saved lists — is restricted at the database level so that only you can access it, independent of anything the app's interface does. Email addresses collected for review fraud-checks or waitlist signups are stored separately from anything shown publicly and are not readable through the site itself.

You can request deletion of your account and associated data — including your notes, favorites, saved lists, and any reviews you've submitted — at any time by emailing us at privacy@retirehere.app. We will confirm once your data has been removed.

RetireHere is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

If what we collect or how we use it changes in any material way, we will update this page before that change takes effect. Check the date at the top of this page for the last revision.

The Community Score is a composite rating, displayed on a 0–100 scale, summarizing community sentiment about a city across seven dimensions: Cost of Living, Healthcare Access, Cultural & Social Scene, Weather Experience, Safety Experience, Downtown Charm & Walkability, and Senior Amenities. It is built from individual reviewer ratings and appears once a city has accumulated at least 10 qualifying reviews, so a score is never shown when there isn't yet enough community input behind it.

RetireHere combines publicly available government and industry data with ratings submitted directly by our community of users. Our data covers natural disaster risk, climate, elevation, population, home values, and healthcare access, drawn from established public and industry sources.

Each reviewer rates a city across seven dimensions on a 1–5 scale, or may mark a dimension "No Opinion" if they do not feel qualified to answer it. For example, a short-term visitor may not feel able to speak to healthcare access or senior amenities the way a resident could. A "No Opinion" response is excluded from that dimension's calculation; it is never treated as a neutral or average rating. Each dimension's score is built entirely from the reviewers who answered it, then the seven dimension scores are averaged together to form the composite.

The underlying 1–5 star composite is converted to a 0–100 score using a fixed, published conversion rather than a straight linear scale. A city where every dimension rates as simply "fine" (3 out of 5) lands in the low 60s, a passing and unremarkable score, rather than at 50, which would misrepresent neutral sentiment as a failing grade. Genuinely excellent cities reach the mid-80s to low-90s; genuinely poor cities fall into the 30s or below. A perfect 100 is not attainable by design.

A Community Score doesn't display until a city reaches 10 qualifying reviews. Below that threshold, the city shows as "Pending" rather than presenting a score built on too small a sample. Once a city clears 10 reviews, each of the seven dimensions still starts from a neutral baseline that real reviews progressively outweigh as more accumulate, so a single review, whether positive or negative, cannot swing a city to the extreme ends of the scale. Scores become more precise, and more confident, as review volume grows beyond that minimum. We display the number of reviews behind every score so users can judge that confidence for themselves.

Safety Experience is treated differently from the other six dimensions. Strong ratings elsewhere cannot fully offset a poor Safety rating in the composite score. A city with excellent amenities but real safety concerns will not be presented as an unqualified high score. This reflects that safety is not simply one preference among many for a retirement destination, but a baseline concern most users weigh above the rest.

RetireHere's underlying data is drawn from multiple public sources, and not every data point is available for every city. Rather than use different wording in different places for what is fundamentally the same handful of situations, we use four consistent terms across the entire site:

Two specific cases worth calling out:

Healthcare Access is measured two ways on RetireHere, deliberately kept separate. The Healthcare Access dimension reflects reviewer sentiment. It captures how residents feel their care has been. The Healthcare Access filters described below are objective, sourced facts: how far the nearest hospital is, how that hospital is rated, and how available primary care is nearby. A dataset can't tell you how a hospital treated you, and a review can't tell you how many miles away it is. We treat these as two different kinds of information rather than blending them into one number.

The filters cover three separate questions on purpose, rather than one combined score:

A hospital shows as "Not Rated" for two different underlying reasons, and we deliberately merge them into that single label rather than distinguishing them for the user. The first reason: CMS reviewed the hospital and found insufficient data to publish a star rating, which is common for small and critical access hospitals. The second: our own matching process was not able to confidently connect the hospital's location record to its CMS record, so no rating is available to show even though CMS may have actually published one. In both cases a specific, named hospital has been identified for that city; the gap is only in the rating, never in whether a hospital was found nearby. We merge these two cases because the distinction is about which of our data sources knows about the hospital, not about the hospital itself, and it is not a distinction that should change a user's search decision. An unrated hospital is included by default rather than treated as low quality; this can be changed for any individual search.

Two limitations worth stating plainly. CMS matching coverage is measurably weaker in remote Alaska, so a Not Rated result is more likely there than elsewhere. And hospital address data is not reliably available for every listed hospital. Confirmed directly against the source data, some records return a facility's name in the address field rather than a street address. Where this occurs, no address is shown rather than displaying incorrect or duplicated information.

RetireHere's data is drawn from large public datasets covering more than 32,000 U.S. cities and towns. As with any dataset of this size, occasional gaps or inconsistencies exist. We investigate and correct these where we can, and we would rather disclose our limitations plainly than obscure them.

One specific example: filtering by Climate criteria excludes 18 cities and towns for which reliable climate station data was not available at the time of publication. These places remain fully visible and searchable outside of climate-based filtering. The gap is in that one data source, not in the city's listing. As with all RetireHere data, our underlying figures are drawn from established public and industry sources rather than any editorial decision to omit a location.

RetireHere's safety data is sourced from the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting Program, accessed through the FBI Crime Data Explorer API. The current dataset uses 2024 figures and covers three categories for each city: violent crime, property crime and motor vehicle theft.

Matching a city to its correct law enforcement agency is the most consequential step in this process and the one where most data pipelines make errors. RetireHere does not simply look for an FBI agency with the same name as the city. Each city is matched through a structured crosswalk that normalizes Census place names and FBI agency names, prefers exact same-state matches, handles consolidated governments and naming exceptions through explicit overrides and uses partial matching only when the extra terms in an agency name are clearly harmless. Specialty agencies — university, airport, transit, railroad, school and hospital police — are specifically excluded from city matching.

Once an agency is matched, RetireHere retrieves monthly offense totals and the FBI's reported population for all 12 months of the year. A rate is only accepted if all 12 months are present and the population values are valid. Annual offenses are summed across those 12 months. The population denominator is the average of the 12 monthly FBI-reported population figures. Rates are calculated as:

annual crime rate = (annual offenses ÷ population) × 100,000

All crime rates on RetireHere are expressed per 100,000 residents, consistent with how the FBI publishes and compares crime statistics nationally.

RetireHere deliberately avoids presenting questionable data as zero. If the FBI agency does not supply a complete 12 months of usable data, or if the matched reporting population falls below 1,000 (too small to produce statistically meaningful rates), the city receives a not-available treatment rather than a misleading figure. Cities that cannot be confidently matched to a single general-purpose law enforcement agency are handled the same way. In all of these cases, the absence of a number is the accurate answer.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of RetireHere, including the RetireHere website, applications, accounts, subscription services, and related features (collectively, the "Service").

RetireHere is operated by RETIRE HERE LLC, an Arizona business ("RetireHere," "we," "us," or "our").

By accessing or using RetireHere, creating an account, or purchasing RetireHere Pro, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

RetireHere is a research and planning tool designed to help people explore and compare U.S. locations they may be considering for retirement or relocation.

The Service may provide information concerning housing, healthcare, climate, natural hazards, crime, walkability, population, cost-related factors, proximity to family or other locations, community ratings, and other location characteristics.

RetireHere may also allow users to search and filter locations, save cities, create retirement lists, compare locations, maintain personal ratings and notes, generate reports, and use other planning features.

RetireHere provides research support only. It does not select a retirement location for you and does not determine whether any particular location is appropriate for your circumstances.

RetireHere does not provide legal, tax, financial, investment, medical, healthcare, insurance, real estate, relocation, or other professional advice.

Information provided through RetireHere should not be relied upon as a substitute for advice from qualified professionals or verification with authoritative sources.

You are solely responsible for decisions concerning retirement, relocation, housing, healthcare, finances, insurance, travel, property purchases or sales, and other matters arising from your research.

You must be at least 18 years old and legally capable of entering into a binding agreement to create an account or purchase a RetireHere subscription.

By creating an account, you represent that the information you provide is accurate and that you are authorized to use the email address and payment method associated with your account.

Some RetireHere features require an account.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of your account credentials and for activity occurring through your account.

You agree to notify us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed or used without authorization.

You may not impersonate another person, create an account using false information, or use another person's account without permission.

RetireHere may offer both free features and paid features through RetireHere Pro.

Features included in the Free and Pro versions may change over time. Current features and subscription terms will be disclosed through the Service.

RetireHere Pro may include features such as expanded Favorites, personal ratings, private notes, retirement lists or saved searches, family-proximity research, comparison tools, reports, and other research or organizational features.

Unless specifically stated otherwise, purchasing RetireHere Pro does not entitle you to any particular future feature or guarantee that every existing feature will remain unchanged indefinitely.

RetireHere Pro is currently offered as an annual subscription.

The subscription price, applicable taxes, and material subscription terms will be disclosed before you complete your purchase.

Unless you cancel before your renewal date, your RetireHere Pro subscription will automatically renew for another one-year term and your payment method will be charged the renewal price disclosed to you before renewal, plus applicable taxes.

Where required by applicable law, RetireHere will provide advance notice of an upcoming renewal, price change, or other material subscription change.

You may cancel your RetireHere Pro subscription at any time through Account → Manage Subscription.

Cancellation prevents the subscription from renewing again. Unless otherwise required by law, cancellation does not immediately terminate access you have already paid for. Your Pro access will continue through the end of your current paid subscription period.

RetireHere will not require you to call or speak with a representative in order to cancel an online subscription.

Price changes affecting an existing subscription will be communicated in advance as required by applicable law. Where applicable law requires affirmative consent to a price change, we will obtain that consent before applying the change.

Payments for RetireHere Pro are processed by Stripe or another payment processor we may designate.

We do not directly store your complete payment-card information.

Your payment transaction may also be subject to Stripe's applicable terms and privacy practices.

You authorize the applicable payment processor to charge your selected payment method for subscription fees, applicable taxes, and authorized renewal charges in accordance with the subscription terms disclosed to you.

If a payment fails, expires, is reversed, or cannot otherwise be completed, access to paid features may be suspended or terminated after any applicable notice or grace period.

RetireHere combines information obtained from government agencies, statistical organizations, healthcare sources, crime-data providers, commercial data providers, community submissions, and other third-party sources.

Although we make reasonable efforts to present useful and accurate information, data may be incomplete, delayed, unavailable, inaccurate, outdated, or changed by its original source without notice.

RetireHere does not independently verify every data point.

A displayed value, score, category, distance, rating, or comparison should not be interpreted as a guarantee concerning present conditions or future outcomes.

You should verify information that may materially affect a decision with appropriate government agencies, local authorities, source providers, and qualified professionals.

RetireHere may calculate, categorize, summarize, weight, or display information using methodologies developed for the Service.

Examples may include risk categories, comparative labels, community scores, distance calculations, filtering rules, or methods used to determine whether information is displayed or withheld.

These methodologies involve design and editorial judgments intended to make information useful for research. They are not objective determinations that one location is suitable for every person.

Methodologies, classifications, and presentation rules may change as RetireHere develops.

RetireHere may allow users to submit ratings, reviews, or other information concerning places they know or have experienced.

Community-submitted information reflects the opinions and experiences of individual users. RetireHere does not guarantee that a community rating or review is accurate, complete, representative, or applicable to another user's circumstances.

You are responsible for content you publicly submit. You agree not to submit content that:

We may remove, restrict, or decline to publish user-submitted content that violates these Terms or that we reasonably believe threatens the integrity or operation of the Service.

You retain ownership of original content you submit to RetireHere.

When you voluntarily submit content intended to be publicly displayed, such as a community review or public rating, you grant RetireHere a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, format, and distribute that content as reasonably necessary to operate, promote, and improve the Service.

This license continues for content that has already been published or incorporated into the Service unless applicable law requires otherwise.

You represent that you have the rights necessary to submit the content and grant this license.

Private account content, including personal notes, private ratings, saved retirement lists, and similar personal research, is not treated as public community content merely because it is stored through RetireHere.

You grant RetireHere only the rights reasonably necessary to host, process, back up, and display that private content in order to provide the Service to you.

Our handling of personal information is also governed by our Privacy Policy.

You may use RetireHere for lawful personal research and planning purposes.

Unless we expressly permit otherwise, you may not:

Third-party links are provided for research convenience. Their inclusion does not constitute endorsement or guarantee of the third party, its information, products, or services.

RetireHere is not responsible for the availability, security, accuracy, or practices of third-party services.

Our collection and use of personal information is described in the RetireHere Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you acknowledge that you have reviewed the Privacy Policy.

We work to keep RetireHere available and functioning, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or continuous availability.
